Learn more about one of our college volunteers: Alexa
Since December 2023, we have had the pleasure of having Alexa as a volunteer here at the Innovation Empire. Prior to joining our college volunteer program, she had no experience of working with 3D printers, laser cutters, and CNC machines. Since being here, Alexa has now become one of the only people to ever use the machines in our space and assist in completing various projects for different departments and students.
Alexa has become an important asset to our team and our makerspace. She has learned so many fundamental skills from Makerspace Manager Josh Brown that are applied every week to what we create. Some of the tasks she completes at the makerspace are updating and maintaining the upkeep of our machines, completing various prints for the makerspace and FUSD (Fontana Unified School District), helping keep track of inventory with supplies and parts for the printers, and Alexa has also assisted Josh with going to schools throughout the district to work on the 3D printers at different sites. While her main tasks have been related to working with our machines, she has also been a part of several different workshops with students who have visited the makerspace.
Currently a student at Cal State San Bernardino, Alexa is in her last year of getting her bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity. Her current goal is to finish her degree at CSUSB and look for a career as an IT Professional, possibly in healthcare. We will definitely miss Alexa once her time in our college volunteer program is at an end, but she will always be welcome and appreciated for her time and effort spent at our makerspace!
